This article on fox news talks about the seven things that mattered in the election, and the author states that as Americans, it's our job to "get to work". What do you guys think? Keep in my this article is very opinionated.
Can't argue with any of the authors statements. The thing that stands out to me most about it all is that the things that they projected to matter in the election did. I have not heard about any ghost issues cropping up that where a major impact in the polls. The political advisers did a good job this year of figuring out where the battle lines were for the election. The president did what he had to do to win those battles.
I personally thought it was kind of funny that the author mentions "minorities were 26% of the vote, but are 51% of live births". Republicans want to make it harder and harder for women to get a hold of birth-control which will only lead to the growth of minorities that are generally more left leaning. This article reminds me of another article I read this past week that basically stated that god works in mysterious ways and that he let Obama win in order to make Christians work harder for what we all need. I don't agree with this whatsoever but I understand that some republicans can't handle losing so they need to equate it to something 'reasonable' in their minds.
This article really stands out to me because I feel as if I agree with most things that the author is saying. One point in particular (his second point) about the election not being a complete failure for Romney really stuck with me. I feel as if Romney from the very beginning was up against it. With the changing landscape of America it seemed to me that Obama would walk away with an easy victory. After seeing the electoral vote it seems that he may have done that, but there were plenty of states that were closer than expected. Overall, I'd have to agree that Romney did make some mistakes, but his total effort was not a complete failure.
This article sounds like a sympathy cry to Mitt Romney. First off, Hurricane Sandy hurt Romney for several reasons. Romney was in favor of reducing the federal emergency management agency. A hurricane striking is bad timing for waning to make that cut. Also Obama handled the Hurricane Sandy very well. From what I remember, President Bush struggled in the handling the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This just went to show an example of how a democratic president verses a republican president handles natural disaster.
The last two points that the author makes are the ones that stand out the most to me. I could not agree more that the Republican party as a whole needs to find a way to connect more with minority groups, as well as adjust their overall stances on social policies. This election should serve as a very big eye-opening experience for the GOP because it is very apparent that the attitudes of Americans are changing.
I agree with Brandon. Romney fight was above my expectation. In term of popular vote Romney was very close with Obama. The fact that Obama won most electrol votes suggest that Democrats had a better strategy and focused on the states that mattered most. The other point that stuck me is Republican failure to convince the minority group. I feel they need more flexibility in their principles with the changing demographics.
