Check out this video about Mitt Romney's loss in the election, there is also an interesting article underneath. Romney claims, "We still believe there are better days ahead."
A loss is a loss is a loss as the expression goes. There is going to be a whole lot of analysis about coulda woulda shoulda, but nothing can be changed now. The question that this whole thing leaves me with is what is next for Romney? Does he have another run at the top job in him, or will his party move in a different direction?
Yes, I personally have noticed a lot of hemming and hawing over why he didn't win, or why Obama did, but as far as I'm concerned, more people thought Obama was the right man for job for one reason or another. I saw a comment a few days ago mentioning something about Romney's abilities in the energy sector. Personally, I believe that if he does want another shot at the presidency, he would do well to remain in the public's eye, doing things to help this country grow. To the extent he will be able to do so, I'm not sure, but he sure has the means to do so. The bottom line is that Obama won, we are in a critical moment that will greater affect our near future, and we now should look to our elected leaders to solve the problem the best way they see fit.
In regards to the part where Romney was speaking to his supporters, I though it was a great speech and very tasteful. It is not easy to loss, no matter the circumstance. Even though we could tell Romney was crushed by his facial expressions, he sounded very optimistic and gave his supporters a great thank you. I don't think Romney was a bad candidate, but rather just not the right one for right now.
From all reports I've seen, I think the entire Romney campaign was shocked to find themselves in the position they were on election night. From all reports, both Romney/Ryan's wives cried softly throughout the final moments, and their blind optimism finally realized. Romney apparently, 'hastily' wrote the final concession speech, and it was obviously read off, instead of by-the-cuff as many of his previous speeches have been. Two interesting things happened in the middle of that fateful Tuesday night that are worth noting as well. 1. Campaign leaders/organizers were shocked to find their Romney campaign credit cards had been cancelled in the middle of the night. Leaving many a stiffed cab driver, and breakfast waitress, no one knows if this move was an individual Romney directive, or part of an overall credit card policy. 2. The secret service detail also left in the middle of the night, without any goodbyes or indication of their flight to the Romney family. He simply woke up, alone, for the first time in months. Previous plans had been made if in the case he won--To provide details to the myriad of the Romney clan of whom would now require protection themselves. However this never ended up happening obviously. Instead, in the middle of the night a call went over the Secret Service radio channel saying, "Javelin, Jockey details, all posts, discontinue.". In terms of future positions--It is incredibly doubtful that Romney would again run for president. In fact, he has publicly stated that he would not pursue political positions again after this. He is 65, and not getting any younger. He can always take up his monumentally rich position at Bain Capital again, or do work in the higher echelons of the Mormon Church as well. As for his political career, I think we've seen the last of Mitt.
