This presidential election was the first I was able to vote in and I, as I assume many of you voted also, went to Douglas Community Center today to fill out my voters ballot. I was wondering what all of you thought of voting today. Was it an easy choice? What about the other sections on the ballot, the proposals, voting for Congress, etc.? What were your reactions to your first experience voting?
I had the opportunity to vote in 2008 and it was definitely much easier than this time. That probably had to do with the fact that I was more excited and didn't know much about everything else in the ballot other than the presidential candidates. Today was much different. Even though I knew who I was voting for president, I was clueless some of the other sections. I did take me much more time and a lot of reading before for the Michigan Proposals. Overall, I think it was a good experience.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest takeaway experience from voting yesterday was the guilt I felt over voting on some issues that I was basically clueless on. I honestly don't know who will make the best regent of the University of Michigan, but I've got a vague idea that this election matters. In this situation, I find myself gravitating towards simply voting on party lines, but I think that this can be counterproductive, because who is to say what kind of Democrat or Republican any particular candidate is? and who is to say that they will even represent the ideological positions of their party?
ReplyDeleteAs a retrospective analysis I am thrilled with my first voting experience I went back to my home country to vote and saw the populous tip blue from a neighborhood devoid of anything but red candidates signs. It helped change my perspective to say the least of where I come from, which from personal experience I assumed was heavily conservative from a social standpoint.
