article talks about the options that Romney has after his loss in the presidential election. What do you think his next move should be? What would you do in his situation... Some say he'll write a book, others say he is pretty screwed without an organization to run. But Romney states, "I will not fall off the map." Any reactions to this article?
I think it will be interesting to see how much and how long Romney dwells on the fact that he lost his final chance to become President of the United States. The article talks about how hard of a critic he is on himself, which makes me wonder if his sulking will delay his efforts of moving on. The man is very savvy when it comes to business though and I wouldn't doubt if he indeed ends up being offered a position within the private sector. For me it's not so much a question of whether or not he'll find something to do, but rather when he'll do it.
ReplyDeletei can see Romney doing a lot of things after this election; there are definitely severals roles he could choose from. I do agree with the article in that Romney is a smart business man and should probably take an important position somewhere. I think Romney should not dwell on his loss for a long time. It happened and can't change it. He should focus on his options and his future.
ReplyDeleteThis could just be a big sign that Romney should retire, he certainly has enough money to do so. However I don't think Mr. Romney will retire just yet, since he probably feels the need to do something meaningful for the public. As was stated in the article Mr. Romney has the option of writing a bood, something that many politicians have done in the past. I would be interested to see what Mr. Romney would write in his tell all, although I'm not sure I could believe it all. The two things that I would like to see Mr. Romney pursue are 1) help the government get out of debt since he does have credible financial skills, and 2) as was talked about in the article "start a research group devoted to energy independence, an issue about which he is obsessed". Energy independence would be a huge leap forward for the U.S. and it would also decrease the amount of government spending. Hopefully Mr. Romney eases into a new position where he can help our country.
ReplyDeleteI agree that his time to be elected president has certainly passed now. After a resounding no to his presidency, it must be a definite blow to his morale and even might affect his principles. I thought what Alex mentioned in his posts before this, that conservatives and republicans are going to have to become more moderate in the next campaign. More and more minorities that are left leaning are showing up at the polls. And the only way to capture those votes is by conceding stubborn conservative principles. As far as what he will do now, I'm sure there is a definite market for his talents and know-how, so I'm sure he'll keep his foot in the door of governmental committees and have oversight on some energy companies. But again, I really don't see him running for president again.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Romney might have lost the election he is a very smart and intelligent business. I do not see him working together with the government but in the situation when the country is in such deep financial crisis, I wish he is willing to contribute to strengthen the finance sector. It is for sure that he won't be running out of offers in the private market though.
