While Americans Gripe Over Spending for Healthcare, Switzerland Plans to Hand out Money
There's a lot of opposition for the new healthcare reform, as citizens contribute toward affordable healthcare for those that couldn't afford it otherwise.
But in Switzerland, they're planning a vote to give a minimum $33,600 yearly salary to all adults in the country.
Is this simply a cultural difference? Do Americans lack morality? What's the difference here?
I also think it is interesting that Switzerland has some of the strictest laws on executive pay, such as the proposed 1:12 initiative. I don't think the U.S. is anywhere close to limiting executive pay because there is so much money involved in politics here.
I also see it as a part of American dream and Americans valuing hard work. However, with a lack of governmental regulations, the rich can really take advantage of the system. As a result you see the vicious cycle of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
I understand the whole view of "hard work" but Switzerland is a model of civilized society. The fact that a referendum can be called like this is amazing. I hope the people succeed in getting what they want
