These images are pretty powerful. I think it' s fantastic that the youth of Hong Kong are speaking out against the lack of democracy. I hope that the protesters are able to achieve what they set out for without using violence. So far that seems to be the case, minus some tear gas here and there.
These images are so inspirational, beautiful and influential. Each slide with different settings have delivered the power of the youth- the future of Hong Kong, the power of technology with ocean of protestors holding up their telephones, the power of perseverance with ocean of umbrellas under the rain. That persistence, that support and that dream is the soul of this protest. Even a-17-year-old kid could fight for democracy like this, there would be no doubt that I would do the same. But not any young person could have that courage like the 17-year-old leader of the protest.
In looking at these pictures, I can’t help but to be reminded of the democratic protests in the Middle East back during the Arab Springs. What I believe was inspirational about the protests back then in the Middle East and now in Hong Kong is the level of involvement by the younger generation. In being part of this generation, you constantly hear the older generation critic our incredible access to resources because of technology and how we don’t always take full advantage of it. However, I think these protests are examples of how my generation is utilizing technology to promote ideas and to come closer together in a response to specific causes. I do not believe that the protests in the Middle East, for example, would have occurred had social media not been implemented as a tool to gather support and awareness.
