This would certainly explain recent reports that china is reconsidering its one child law. That said, it seems like they've traded gross overpopulation for skewed M:F ratios. Not ideal, but perhaps much easier a problem to manage then ballooning population on whole?
does not surprise me. this has been a very problematic issue in so many parts of asia
