Higher Wage Is Approved in New Jersey

Voters in New Jersey recently approved a measure that will raise the minimum wage by $1 to $8.25 starting next year.

What do you think of this? Do you think the national level should be raised as well? Or would it do more harm than good in our still troubled economy? How about here in Michigan where it has been $7.40 since 2008.

  1. Here is an interesting video about this topic. There isn't much loss from increasing the wage. It should have been going with inflation anyway, in my view.

  2. Yes I think minimum wage needs to be raised since the prices of a lot of things are increasing in our economy and the yearly amount made from minimum wage just isnt cutting it anymore.

  3. This needs to be done across the nation CEO are profiting way too much off of people who are doing some of the most work. for example Walmart and McDonald's.

  4. I think the national minimum wage level should definitely be raised. It is nearly impossible to live off of $7.25/hour. I remember that in high school we did an activity where we had to create a budget based on earning minimum wage and how the activity illustrated how difficult it is to afford basic necessities.

  5. I think raising minimum wage could be a start to get the economy back on track, spending power has to be in the hands of those who actually spend. That means regular working class people, not the super-wealthy who tend to save wealth or invest in financial products.

  6. I think it should be done on a national level. It is wrong (my values here) for people to work full time and live in poverty.

  7. A system that works abroad (at least better than it works here) is a national minimum age with mandated 'location allowances.' This would give a standard wage level across the nation that was variable enough to account for our country's massively different living costs

  8. I wonder if increasing minimum wage will lift people out of poverty or just raise the bar.

  9. I really don't think increasing minimum wage will help much. Prices will just go up to match up the increase in people's purchasing power.

  10. I agree that relative to inflation, there shouldn't be significant offsets. Given the sheer number of affected people, increase in spending would be visible. To me, it doesn't seem like a winning strategy for the economy in general though.
