CNBC Debates Fiscal Policy

The video attached below provided by CNBC debates the need to increase taxes.  This video brings up issues we have been discussing in class such as: where taxation matters, how fiscal policy creates growth, how to reduce the deficit, and how to raise revenue.  The debaters are constantly relating the current tax situation to what happened during President Clinton’s time in office.  Things have obviously changed since then, but do you think a similar fiscal policy model can be used today?  Also, since this video was made three months ago, what changes have we seen in fiscal policy since July?

  1. That is a very interesting video Bianca. I also believe that taxes for the upper class should be higher as they could really help improve the economy but what I am worried about is how much of that money will be wasted. The things that Obama has put into place and other things we talked about in class last week really go to show that we waste a ton of money. Regulations are not very good and we are throwing away too much money to really improve the economy. The next thing on the list that may be a money waster as well in Obamacare. Hopefully it works better than other policies in place right now but unless we fix the leaks in the buckets, the economy will not improve like we hope it will no matter what we do.

  2. Aaron I agree with you in saying they should tax higher on the upper class, but not too high where the money the upper class makes is completely taken away. I think the real issue is the "leaky-bucket" situation we face, how much of these taxes are being used beneficially for the country. Would it be possible to use this money towards the nations debt? Try to tend toward that issue? My dad always talked about my families debt in this way... "we will always have debt, whether big or small... it'll always be there." So should we focus on other problems? Will the debt ever get paid off? Especially since we keep spending.
